Toxicology Bootcamp (Biosciences Summer)

6 weeks Starts 26 August 2026intermediate

About this course

The Toxicology Bootcamp introduces learners to the scientific principles used to understand how chemicals and other potentially harmful substances affect living organisms. The course combines foundational toxicology with dose-response concepts, exposure assessment, risk evaluation, and case-based learning. Participants will learn how toxicity is influenced by factors such as dose, route of exposure, duration, biological characteristics, and chemical properties. They will also explore how toxicological information can be used to evaluate risks and support decisions in healthcare, environmental science, pharmaceuticals, research, and public health. Key Learning Areas: • Fundamentals of toxicology • Types and classifications of toxic substances • Dose-response relationships • Routes of exposure • Absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion • Mechanisms of toxicity • Acute and chronic toxicity • Organ-specific toxicity • Chemical and environmental toxicology • Pharmaceutical and occupational toxicology • Risk assessment principles • Hazard identification • Exposure assessment • Interpretation of toxicology data • Case-based toxicology analysis • Toxicology and public health Expected Outcome: Learners will develop a solid foundation in toxicology and be able to interpret basic toxicological concepts, assess exposure scenarios, understand dose-response relationships, and apply toxicology principles to real-world cases.
